Apr 23, 2006 - The World Bank is stepping up its efforts to improve governance – the way countries deliver services to their people – to drive results for the world’s poorest people.
The move follows the Spring Meetings of the Development Committee – the senior policy setting body for the Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
In its final communique, the Development Committee called on the Bank to lay out a broad strategy – to be discussed at its next meeting – to help member countries strengthen governance and deepen the fight against corruption – with the Bank to work closely with the IMF, other multilateral development institutions and member countries.
World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz said governance was vital to help the world’s poor.
